Looking for something different
Speaking about Something Different Wholesale’s trade credit management processes before working with a dedicated B2B Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) provider, Commercial Director Anthony David explains that only a small number of buyers were being offered payment terms.
“It was not something that we openly advertised,” Anthony says. “We would look at customers on a case-by-case basis when credit was requested.”
But the Something Different Wholesale team was noticing demand for trade credit that was quickly outpacing their manual eligibility checks. They identified the need for a scalable system that would enable credit to be extended to a greater number of customers, even on their first purchase. The solution also needed to be compatible with both online and offline transactions.

After conducting meticulous internet research, the Something Different Wholesale team discovered a selection of providers offering BNPL solutions that could potentially match their requirements.
A rigorous RfP process revealed that competitive rates, superior user experience and offline capabilities meant that Hokodo’s solution stood out from the competition.

Following a swift integration and successful launch, it hasn’t taken long for Something Different Wholesale to begin realising the return on investment of their new B2B Buy Now, Pay Later solution.
“We have seen a reduction in all aspects of administration around credit accounts,” says Anthony. “Most of our credit account customers have been switched to Hokodo and new credit accounts are set up with Hokodo, which has all helped to reduce pressure on our accounts team.”
Hokodo is also helping Something Different Wholesale to reach their commercial goals.
“We are seeing orders from new customers using Hokodo as their payment option on their first order and we have seen an increase in the average order value of those existing customers using Hokodo as the payment option,” Nia tells us.
What does the future hold?
With solid foundations in place, the partnership between Something Different Wholesale and Hokodo is only set to grow.
In the short term, B2B Buy Now, Pay Later will continue to be marketed to new and existing customers while the final offline accounts are switched to Hokodo. In the longer term, Something Different Wholesale plans to share data with Hokodo in order to enable a higher offer rate for sole traders and wants to take Hokodo to their other European markets.
